Pilibhit MLA’s gunner fires accidentally, injures two

Bhikam Singh
Noida: A 58-year-old cigarette vendor was injured after being hit by a bullet shell when a gunner of Pilibhit MLA Sanjay Singh Gangwar accidentally fired his rifle in Sector 2. Another gunner of the MLA also sustained injuries in the firing, police said.
The accident occurred on Sunday morning when around five men, including the gunners of the MLA, came in a Fortuner to buy some cigarettes from Bhikam Singh’s stall. “They bought cigarettes and gutkha from my shop and started smoking and chewing tobacco there itself. One of them fired his rifle. The bullet shell hit me. Another gunner was also injured,” said Singh.
However, instead of taking Singh to a hospital, the accused allegedly asked him to take some medicines and then drove off.
Later, a police team reached the spot and took him to a local clinic.
An FIR has been lodged against unknown persons under IPC sections 279 (rash driving) and 324 (voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons or means) on the complaint of Bhikam Singh.
DCP Sankalp Sharma told TOI that they were trying to identify the gunner and action will be taken against him.
When contacted, MLA Gangwar said: “It is true that one of the gunners fired accidentally. I got to know this and I sent someone there to help the man who was injured but he denied that he required any help, as he seemed to be a man of self-respect. No other person has been injured.”
