684,903 candidates appeared GATE 2020 examination
Out of 859,048 registered candidates, total 684,903 (79.73%) candidates appeared in eight sessions at 566 centres across 199 cities.

NEW DELHI: GATE 2020 examination was conducted successfully and smoothly on February 1, 2, 8 & 9 across India and the international centers at Dubai, Singapore, Ethiopia, Nepal and Dhaka.
IIT Delhi is the organising institute for GATE 2020 examination. The IIT Delhi GATE Organising Team left no stone unturned for smooth conduct of this examination.
Out of 859,048 registered candidates, total 684,903 (79.73%) candidates appeared in eight sessions at 566 centres across 199 cities.
There were many challenges including the conduct of GATE in Jammu & Kashmir, declaration of state emergency/calamity in Kerala because of coronavirus, overlap with the election date in Delhi etc.
For the GATE examination, first time the candidates were given the choice of choosing examination centre in Srinagar. Total 5102 candidates preferred Srinagar as examination city for GATE 2020. Eleven test centres were identified to accommodate all candidates in Srinagar to facilitate them by avoiding travel outside the valley in harsh and unpredictable weather. Out of 5102 registered candidates, 4046 (79.30%) candidates wrote the examination in Srinagar.
Out of 5424 registered candidates, 4270 (78.70%) candidates appeared at centres in Jammu.
Forty faculty members (Institute Representatives) went to Srinagar for conducting GATE 2020 at eleven centres on Feb 1, 2, 8 & 9. The feedbacks of these Institute Representatives on infrastructures such as power, network connectivity, and transportation were very encouraging.
None of the internet dependent examination processes were delayed even by few minutes at all eleven centres in Srinagar. All Institute Representatives appreciated the cooperation, support, safety and security arrangements. Overall, they found near normal and safe situation in Srinagar.
IIT Delhi also acknowledges the kind support and help received from Ministry of HRD, Ministry of Home Affairs, Election Commission of India and the local administration of Srinagar.
