Six arrested for circulating fake notes

Jajpur: Six persons were arrested in Jajpur district on Wednesday for allegedly circulating fake notes. They were caught when some shop owners in Danagadi market raised an alarm when two accused attempted to buy vegetables with the notes.
The vendors drew the attention of locals, who informed police. Police seized fake notes worth Rs 4.77 lakh in 2,000, 500 and 200 denominations, said sub-divisional police officer (Jajpur Road) Chinmay Nayak.
All the arrested persons have been identified as Chandramani Bal, 35, of Mangalpur, Bapina Sethi, 23, of Danagadi, Manoj Das, 31, of Manapur, Tapan Jena, 26, of Jajpur Road in Jajpur district, Ajaya Kumar Sahoo, 24, and Mayadhar Patra, 64, of Bhuban in Dhenkanal district .Chandramani Bal had been arrested in 2017 at Kaliapani in Jajpur district for circulating fake notes, added the police officer.
“We seized one colour printer, one paper cutter, some sheets of printing paper and other printing materials from the house of Bal at Mangalpur village,” added the police officer.
Police suspect the accused had been circulating fake currency notes in Danagadi, Bhuban, Salepur, Bhubaneswar, Bhadrak and other areas. “We also suspect that the arrested persons are in nexus with some fake note racketeers,” added the police officer.
Three years ago, police seized fake notes worth more than Rs 30 lakh and arrested four persons in Jajpur district. Two years back , police arrested four members of family, including three women in Mundamala village under Jajpur Road police station limits on alleged charges of circulating counterfeit notes.
