PUNE: Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) members protested at Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) on Tuesday, regarding several issues related to the welfare of students in the university.
The problems faced by the students under the Earn and Learn scheme and lack of facilities faced by the students at the hostels were some of the issues raised during the protest.
“The SPPU administration should either equip the hostels with the necessary amenities or return the hostel fees to the students. Our another major demand is that the administrations must cancel the government holidays in the Earn and Learn scheme or they must increase the amount of remuneration paid to the students,” said Purva Bhawalkar, ABVP’s Pune Mahanagar office Mantri.
She also added that the Earn and Learn scheme must be implemented for the whole year for the students of BSc, BEd and Skill Development.
Other demands of the organisation included setting up a cell to resolve complaints of the students, fellowship to the students of MPhil and PhD, fee exemption to drought-affected students, and recruitment of professors and librarians.
Bhawalkar also indicated that if these demands are not met with, the organisation will hold an even bigger protest soon.
