British Airways will fly between London Heathrow and Newquay this summer.
It comes after Flybe announced it would move its government subsidised Newquay service back to Gatwick from Heathrow in April. The troubled regional airline – which is currently in talks with the government over a rescue deal – switched the route to Heathrow in 2019.
British Airways’ schedule will be more leisure-oriented than Flybe’s four-times daily service, with flights on Mondays, Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays from July 2 to September 7, operated by an Airbus A319.

BA previously served Newquay from Gatwick, but cut the route after only a year in 2008.
The airline has pledged to offset carbon emissions on all domestic flights, through projects including investment in renewable energy and reforestation programmes.
Richard Thomasson, interim director at Newquay’s Cornwall Airport, commented: “We are delighted British Airways will be flying to Cornwall this summer and to be able to continue to offer this vital link between Cornwall and Heathrow.
“With such a major global carrier we will be able to offer our passengers one-stop access to the world, while worldwide investors and tourists will benefit from an easier connection to our stunning county.”
A spokesperson for Flybe told the Independent: “BA’s recently announced summer seasonal Heathrow service is not comparable to the vital year-round multi-frequency daily services to key London airport hubs with which Flybe is privileged to have served Cornwall with for the past 11 years.
“We are proud of our established position as the largest scheduled airline by the number of air traffic movements at Cornwall Airport Newquay.
“We continue to offer our customers four conveniently timed flights a day on the route to Heathrow until the end of March following which flights will revert to London Gatwick with the same frequency giving the choice of 28 flights a week.”
BA summer routes this year include Prisitina, Podgorica, Perugia, Dalaman and Bodrum.
