AFMC gets 35 innovative ideas in medical field

PUNE: The Armed Forces Medical College (AFMC) received overwhelming response for its in house armed forces medical services (AFMS) 'innovations and creative ideas'. The college has short listed 35 entries received from all over the country participated in the event.

These innovations were displayed for the delegates during 68 th annual armed forces medical conference held at the college. Director general armed forces medical services Lt Gen Anup Banerji chaired the thee day long conference.


"The innovations from undergraduates, post graduate residents, Medical Officers (MO) and Nursing officers were solicited. The innovations and creative ideas included were simple modifications to surgical instruments and medical gadgets, developing mobile applications, innovative tools for medical record keeping, low cost innovations and various prototypes for effective medical management in special scenarios. The award winning entries included innovations in hair restoration surgery, prototype of nebulizer for asthamatic patients and modified endotracheal tube to reduce complications related to anesthesia," states a press release issued by the college.

Display on Chemical, Biological, Radiological & Nuclear (CBRN) warfare and combat medical support in tri-services was a highlight during the conference.

The Armed Forces Medcial Research Committee (AFMRC) provides a platform to the AFMS researchers posted all over the country to meaningfully contribute and be a valuable part of this enormous researchand learning process.

"This year 180 new research projects were discussed. The projects were approved taking into consideration their relevance to the armed forces,originality and adherence to ethical guidelines," added the release.

The Medcial Journal Armed Forces India (MJAFI) the official publication of the AFMS of India publishes high quality biomedical multispeciality research from doctor, scientists and other health care professionals across the world on a quarterly basis.

This year's MJAFI oration was delivered by Dr Camilla Rodriques on Tuberculosis Diagnostics: What's new & where we are today.


DGAFMS Lt Gen Banerji in his address to the young budding medical cadets emphasized the importance of medical profession and need for updating skills with changing technologies.


He said, "A good medical professional keeps himself up to date with the newer information and should strive to learn, innovate and be a part of the research which has positive outcome for the society at large."


The conference provides an excellent platform for deliberations in the field of clinical medicine, military medicine and combat medical support.


"The conference witnessed clinicians, researchers, academicians and medical administrators deliberate on current and emerging areas of importance in health care and preparation of a roadmap for medical research and research collaborations for AFMS. For the first time, video conferencing of AFMRC sessions was conducted with other major service hospitals to foster a spirit of research and innovation amongst armed forces doctors and nurses," said the AFMC authorities.
