A caravan park was evacuated after parts of it were flooded today.

Golden Sands in Kinmel Bay, Denbighshire, told everybody to leave by 5pm this evening, after bad weather hit the region again.

The warning to evacuate came after high tide and winds drove waves against barriers and a blocked drain flooded the nearby promenade on one side.

In a statement on the Golden Sands Holiday Park North Wales owners Facebook page today, people were told to leave because there was "a serious concern that the park will flood late tonight and again tomorrow lunchtime."

Company bosses said they were following an evacuation plan "due to parts of the park flooding" with people's safety the main priority.

They said the park would be closed for a minimum of 48 hours and there would be regular updates on the Facebook page.

"From what we can see so far, any damage is to the park itself and belongings under caravans," the statement said.

Splash Point in Rhyl and Kinmel Bay also saw flooding as the region was battered again by stormy conditions.

North Wales Fire and Rescue Service(NWFRS) said it sent one engine from Rhyl to Kinmel Bay and used a pump to take water out of a nearby bank and back onto the beach.

The service said it was assisting council workers with the operation.

Denbighshire County Council(DCC) bosses said flood defences did their job in Rhyl.

A spokesman for the local authority said: "The high tide in Rhyl has thankfully passed without serious incident and whilst there was some over-topping, the flood defences have contained and dispersed the sea water.

"Flood gates had been kept closed since the weekend and teams from the council were on stand-by to respond to any problems.

"They issued sandbags in some areas to divert the water away along the promenade.”
