The Delhi chief minister is facing Sunil Yadav of the BJP and Romesh Sabharwal of the Congress in a constituency which he had won convincingly in 2015 and 2013.

In 2015, when the former bureaucrat led AAP to a resounding victory in the Delhi assembly elections, Kejriwal defeated Nupur Sharma of the BJP by a margin of 31,583 votes. Kiran Walia of the Comgress came a very distant third.

In 2013, Kejriwal defeated the then CM Sheila Dikshit of the Congress by 25,864 votes. Vijender Gupta of the BJP was then 500 votes behind her.

This was the same seat which Dikshit had won in 2008 defeating Vijay Jolly of the BJP.

New Delhi assembly constituency is a part of New Delhi Lok Sabha constituency, and was created by reorganisation by delimitation commission in 2008.
