Chennai: Youth arrested for murder of aunt

CHENNAI: The Avadi police on Monday arrested a youth for killing his aunt for gain.
The police said Gokul, 19, murdered his aunt Mallika 56, on Friday and escaped with 12 sovereigns of jewellery and Rs 2,500 in cash from her home.
The police were on the lookout for Gokul’s friend, Akash, who was absconding. Akash was with Gokul when the crime happened.
Gokul is the son of Mallika’s elder sister, Padmavathi. Gokul used to stay in Mallika’s house in Othavadai Street at Kannampalayam in Avadi.
He used to take money from his aunt regularly. On Friday last, he had demanded money from her. When Mallika refused to give him money, Gokul attacked and murdered her.
He escaped from the house taking her gold chain, one pair of earrings, three pairs of ear studs and Rs 2,500 in cash.
A special team that was formed to nab the offenders arrested Gokul from near his house on Monday night.
