Horrific moment pubgoer has his head stomped on and slammed into a pool table during wild brawl that's landed 'cowardly' attacker in jail

A pubgoer who attempted to break up a brawl had his head slammed into a pool table and stomped on in an horrific incident that's landed a thug behind bars. 

Cory Pereira was handed a four-year jail term on Tuesday for his part in the attack on Jay Smith, 23, at Champion Lakes Tavern, in Perth's south east, in November 2017. 

Staff at the venue said they heard the sickening impact of the stomp that left Mr Smith with skull fractures and bleeding on his brain, according to 9 News.

Mr Smith's ability to taste and smell has not recovered in the two years since the attack.

A court heard that as Mr Smith lay unresponsive on the ground, Pereira stepped over his victim and went to the casino. 

The judge branded the attack on Mr Smith a 'senseless, unprovoked and cowardly act of violence', adding the victim was 'defenceless and vulnerable'.

Mr Smith was struck repeatedly by multiple men during the brawl, leaving the judge unable to determine whether Pereira was responsible for the injuries. 

The attacker's lawyer noted that Pereira had been drinking before the attack.

He added Pereira felt terrible for Mr Smith.

But the judge s said the attacker had never shown genuine remorse.

Pereira will be eligible for parole in two years.
