INS Shivaji to get Prez’s Colour

PUNE: President Ram Nath Kovind will be awarding the coveted President’s Colour (flag) to INS Shivaji on February 13.  

INS Shivaji, Lonavla, commissioned as HMIS Shivaji in 1945, is a premier category ‘A’ training establishment of the Indian Navy.

The establishment has rendered 75 years of glorious service to the nation by imparting training in engineering discipline to personnel of Indian Navy, Coast Guard, other sister services and friendly foreign countries. 

The  President’s Colour is the highest honour that can be bestowed on any military unit and will be received by ‘Nishan Adhikari’ on behalf of INS Shivaji during an impressive ceremonial parade comprising 130 officers and 630 sailors of the Indian Navy.

“The award of President’s Colour marks a very important milestone in the history of INS Shivaji. The President’s Colour shall be proudly displayed and carried at all ceremonial parades at INS Shivaji to motivate and inspire all future marine engineers of the Navy. A special cover marking the Platinum Jubilee of INS Shivaji will also be released by the President,” stated a press release the Navy. 

According to officials, INS Shivaji has trained more than two lakh officers and sailors, both Indian and international, since inception. All courses conducted at INS Shivaji are recognised by the ‘All India Council for Technical Education’ (AICTE).  The motto of this establishment is ‘Karmasu Kaushalam’, which translates to imbibing the concept of ‘Skill at Work’ in all facets of human endeavour. 

INS Shivaji is commemorating 75 years of its glorious service to the Indian Navy in February 2020. The 75th year of INS Shivaji commenced from February 15, 2019 and will complete on February 15, 2020. INS Shivaji is thus celebrating 2019-20 as the ‘Platinum Jubilee Year’.
