The key to Delhi's power is again seen in the hands of Arvind Kejriwal. Like late Congress leader Sheila Dixit, he too has come close to imposing a hat-trick by becoming the chief minister for the third consecutive time.
After the formation of the party in 2013, Arvind Kejriwal has suddenly started shining like a star on the political scene of Delhi. If the majority did not get a majority for the first time, then the people of Delhi openly voted for the Aam Aadmi Party and put 67 seats out of 70 seats. It was a record in itself. This time too, his steps are moving towards an absolute majority.
Before him, only Sheila Dixit has been the leader who was the Chief Minister for the third consecutive time. She was the CM of Delhi for a record 15 years. Sheila took command after defeating the BJP in 1998 and till 2013. It was Kejriwal who ended his long reign.
The possible victory of 'AAP' under the leadership of Arvind Kejriwal is also special because he is the only leader after Sheila Dixit who is going to sit on the chair of CM again after running the government for five years.
However, in the history of Delhi, Kejriwal, who made many records, has another unique record.
Chief Minister's record for the lowest day.
The Aam Aadmi Party, which contested for the first time in 2013, received a lot of love from the people of Delhi. But a few steps away from the majority, his steps were halted in 28 seats. Congress had to resort to forming a government.
But this mismatch coalition did not last long and Kejriwal had to resign from the post of CM in just 48 days. This was the shortest tenure in the history of Delhi. Before him, this record was in the name of late BJP leader Sushma Swaraj, who was the chief minister for 51 days in 1998.
No BJP CM has completed five years
Before Arvind Kejriwal, only Sheila Dixit of Congress has been the Chief Minister who has completed her five-year term. The first CM of Delhi, Chaudhary Brahmaprakash, held the post for about three years and Gurmukh Nihal Singh, who took the post after him.
After 1956 elections were held in 1993, BJP won and Madan Lal Khurana became CM. But after 2 years and 86 days, he had to resign. After him, Sahib Singh Verma also could not complete three years. Sushma Swaraj was the Chief Minister for 51 days only.
