Japan Airlines and Aeroflot launch codeshare

Russia’s national airline Aeroflot and Japan Airlines have signed a codeshare agreement which is set to take effect on March 29.

Under the new agreement, both airlines will offer codeshares on their daily flights between Tokyo’s Haneda Airport and Moscow’s Sheremetyevo Airport, as well as offer connecting flights to a number of cities within Russia and Japan.

Japan Airlines will add its “JL” designator code on 10 Russian destinations, such as St. Petersburg, Kazan and Yekaterinburg.

Aeroflot will place its “SU” designator code on 10 Japanese destinations, such as Sapporo, Osaka and Fukuoka.

Japan Airlines said that both airlines intend to increase codeshare destinations as a result of the partnership. One of the new routes will include Aeroflot’s new service between Osaka Kansai and Moscow Sheremetyevo scheduled to begin in June this year.

Both Aeroflot and Japan Airlines have operated flights between Tokyo and Moscow for over 50 years now.

Yesterday, the Russian carrier said it will move its Moscow-Tokyo service from Tokyo’s Narita Airport to Haneda Airport’s Terminal 3 starting March 29.

Aeroflot to move Tokyo flights to Haneda Airport
