Homes have been flooded in Kinmel Bay after waves surged over sea defences during high tides.

Sea water has cascaded over defences and has hit properties in the Conwy town this afternoon.

Floodwater is also being battled against in Rhyl, with flood defences currently holding firm against the massive tidal surge.

Waves also pounded the sea front at Llanddulas.

Three flood warnings were put into place by Natural Resources Wales on Tuesday morning as the agency warned that spring tides had the potential to cause flooding.

We'll bring you the latest on the incident as we get it.

Fire service in Kinmel Bay

The fire service has confirmed they sent one engine from Rhyl to Kinmel Bay this afternoon and they are using a pump to take water out of a bank beside the beach and back onto the beach.

They said they are assisting council workers with the operation.

Flooding easing

Flooding in Kinmel Bay is now easing, and water is being pumped out back onto the beach.

Natural Resources Wales

Natural Resources Wales have said that they did not initiate any severe flood warning, so no evacuations would have been initiated by them.

They said that some caravan parks may have had their own evacuation plans.

Rhyl escapes flooding

Denbighshire Council has confirmed that flood defences did their job in Rhyl.

A spokesman said:

The high tide in Rhyl has thankfully passed without serious incident and whilst there was some over-topping, the flood defences have contained and dispersed the sea water.

“Flood gates had been kept closed since the weekend and teams from the council were on stand-by to respond to any problems.

“They issued sandbags in some areas to divert the water away along the promenade.”

Reports of caravan park hit

Several people are reporting that Golden Sands Holiday Park in Kinmel Bay has been hit quite badly by flooding.

People have said that they are being advised to leave the site, although this has not been officially confirmed.

High tides in Llanddulas

There were also some pretty hefty waves in Llanddulas earlier today, where a flood warning has been in place.

Flooding in Rhyl

There has also been some flooding in Rhyl, but sea defences have worked well so far and kept the worst at bay.

Here is a video showing staff at work keeping the water clear.

Homes flooded

We are getting reports that homes on the coast of Kinmel Bay have been flooded as a result of tidal surges.

Flood warnings were put into place on Tuesday morning warning of the potential for flooding as spring tides and stormy conditions led to huge waves.

It has now been reported that flooding has taken place.

More to follow.
