DGCA exempts air crew from breath analyser tests in Kerala

NEW DELHI: Pilots and cabin crew have been exempted from breath analyser (BA) tests at Kerala’s main airports in wake of the spreading coronavirus epidemic. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has exempted the crew from BA tests for 15 days at Kannur, Kochi, Kozhikode and Thiruvananthapuram airports with immediate effect. Crew operating flights out of these airports will need to mandatorily undergo post-flight BA at the next immediate station.
A DGCA official said this step was taken due to fears of coronavirus. All pilots are mandatorily required to undergo pre-flight BA while operating domestic routes. On international flights, where liquor is served, crew is subject to post-flight BA tests on a random basis.
India has so far seen three confirmed cases of coronavirus from Kerala. All three are students who had returned home from Wuhan.
