The security forces, including the Delhi Police, on Monday, stopped the protesters from carrying out a march against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and the proposed National Register of Citizens (NRC) from Jamia Millia Islamia to the Parliament.
The call for the march was given by the Jamia Coordination Committee, which asked anti-CAA demonstrators to gather at gate number 7 of the University. The security forces, present in large numbers in the area, prevented the protesters from moving beyond Okhla's Holy Family Hospital.
The police said that no permission had been granted to lead any such march on Monday.
The demonstration against the newly amended law and police's December 15 crackdown on university students has been on outside Jamia Millia Islamia for almost two months now.
