On May 21, 2018, division number 8 police had booked Rahul Kumar of Haibowal Kalan and Shubham Kainth of Kailash Chowk under sections 379 (2) (snatching), 411 (dishonestly receiving stolen property) of IPC for snatching purse of a woman.
According to the prosecution, the complainant Neetika Kaura said she was going back hime from Ghumar mandi at about 7pm with her daughter on a scooter that her daughter was driving, two men on a motorcycle came from behind and snatched her purse containing Rs 400 to 500.
They managed to alert people and catch one of the accused, identified as Rahul, who was in possession of her purse. Police later arrested the other accused after Rahul disclosed his name.
During trial of the case, the accused pleaded false implication. But the court, after going through the evidence, held that the unimpeached testimonies of complainant Kaura, eyewitnesses Aishwarya and Anvinder Singh Sohi, the prosecution has been able to establish that on May 21, 2018, Rahul snatched pink colour purse from the hand of Kaura.
“This purse being stolen property was recovered from accused who failed to justify its possession,” the court remarked. The court, however, held that the prosecution has failed to prove the guilt of Shubham beyond shadow of reasonable doubt and hence acquitted him from the charges against him.
