PUNE: The Pune Airport authorities have requested those coming to the airport to cooperate with traffic wardens.

Heavy traffic jams occur during peak hours, mostly at 9 am and after 7 pm. The vehicles entering the premises have to wait outside the terminal building. The city traffic police also help to clear the traffic.

“We have undertaken huge infrastructural projects to improve passenger facilities. But the land available is meagre. As a result, there may be traffic congestion and increased dwell time during rush hours. Kindly cooperate with traffic wardens,” said Pune Airport Director Kuldeep Singh.

Two major projects are underway at Pune airport. Recently, city MP Girish Bapat laid the foundation stone of multilevel car parking at parking number one. The expansion of the new terminal building is going on on a war footing. However, there is a land issue, as they have not received 34 acres of land and private land to shift the present parking stand.

“This pertains to a lighting point at departure entry gates, exit at the arrival area and the public roads in front of the terminal building,” said the officer.

Four traffic wardens have been deputed by the Airport Authority of India (AAI) at Pune airport. During peak hours, the drivers are always in a hurry, especially commercial vehicles to pick other passengers, and do not follow traffic rules.

A year ago, the Pune airport administration streamlined vehicle entry and made separate lanes for departure and arrival. The vehicles are not allowed to wait more than three minutes for dropping and picking up passengers.
