"I don't think there is any fear on coronavirus as far as Goa is concerned. Till date, there is no positive case of coronavirus reported in Goa. We have set up isolation wards at Chicalim (South Goa) and Goa Medical College and Hospital (North Goa)," Goa Health Minister Vishwajit Rane said on Monday.

Alibaba offers $2.86 bn to firms hit by coronavirus outbreak
Alibaba Group Holdings said on Monday its affiliate Ant Financial's WeBank unit would offer 20 billion yuan ($2.86 billion) in loans to companies in China in light of the coronavirus outbreak, with preferential terms for Hubei firms. Alibaba made the announcement in a statement posted on its official Weibo account. The loans will carry low interest rates, it added.

India does not have enought kits!
"As of now, adequate stocks of logistics including PPE is available. State governments have also been advised on the necessary precaution to be taken up on the issue. Presently there is no such crisis--like shortage of PPE. But, as a part of preventive measure storing adequate quantity of PPE in advance is always a better way to deal with the crisis, if the need arises. We have estimated the requirement of about 50,000 PPE kit for the doctors," the official told IANS.

India to test samples of Coronavirus from Afghanistan
Union Minister Harshvardhan on Monday informed the Parliament that India has agreed to a request made by Afghanistan for sample testing of new coronavirus here. Speaking on the matter in Lok Sabha the minister said: "Request from Afghanistan for samples testing has been agreed to." The minister also said that the Indian government decided to provide help to other neighbouring countries in Southeast Asian region in handling the challenge posed by the new coronavirus.
China on Monday appreciated Prime Minister Narendra Modi's letter to President Xi Jinping offering solidarity and assistance to deal with the deadly coronavirus outbreak, saying it "fully demonstrated" New Delhi's friendship with Beijing.

GM will restart China production from Feb. 15
General Motors said on Monday it would restart production in China from Feb. 15 amid the coronavirus epidemic in China. The U.S. automaker would have a staggered start of production across plants with local partners over the next two weeks, a company spokeswoman told Reuters.

27 foreigners in China have been infected with coronavirus, 2 dead
China's Foreign Ministry said that 27 foreigners in the country have been confirmed infected with the new coronavirus as of Monday morning, and two had died. An American died on Feb. 6 and a Japanese died on Feb. 8, ministry spokesman Geng Shuang told a daily news briefing in Beijing. Three of the cases have been discharged, he added.

Quarantined ship reports 60 more cases of coronavirus
Around 60 more people on board the quarantined Diamond Princess cruise ship moored off Japan have been diagnosed with novel coronavirus, Japan's national broadcaster NHK said on Monday.
According to industry sources in China, there is a strong likelihood that the authorities may extend the Lunar New Year holiday till February 17 in some key provinces, especially in greater China from February 10. This means that companies and factories will continue to remain shut, resulting in uncertainty looming large globally, including in India.
The pipeline of parts from China, the biggest manufacturing hub for the world, is fast drying up. The automotive industry has been working with lean inventory and single market sources for a long time to effectively manage inventory and costs.

Coronavirus pushing inflation up in China
China consumer prices rose at their highest rate in more than eight years, official data showed Monday, with inflation more than expected on the back of Lunar New Year demand and a deadly virus outbreak. Beijing had already been battling a slowing domestic economy before the new coronavirus emerged, disrupting businesses, travel and supply chains. The consumer price index (CPI), a key gauge of retail inflation, came in at 5.4 percent last month on-year, up from 4.5 percent in December -- with prices of pork and fresh vegetables pushing up costs. Food prices spiked 20.6 percent. The overall monthly figure exceeded the 4.9 percent forecast by analysts in a Bloomberg survey and is the highest since October 2011.
