COIMBATORE: A Class IX student was arrested on Monday for sexually assaulting a 10-year-old differently abled girl in an isolated place near Thadagam Road in the city on Sunday. The boy was produced before the juvenile justice board and lodged in the juvenile home at Lakshmi Mills Junction in the evening.
The all-woman police (Central) said the girl was a Class V student and that she could neither speak nor hear. “Her mother is a house maid and her father, a cook. On Sunday, she was alone at her residence as her parents had gone out for work. The boy, who is her neighbour, took the girl to an isolated area that was filled with thick vegetation and sexually assaulted her,” an investigation officer said.
When the girl’s mother returned home from work, the officer said, she conveyed her what had happened. The girl’s mother lodged a complaint with the all-woman police (Central), who registered a case against the boy under Section 9 (aggravated sexual assault) of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act. The minor girl was sent to the Coimbatore Medical College and Hospital for medical checkup.
Police, meanwhile, picked up the boy from his house on Monday afternoon and lodged him in the juvenile home. Further investigation is on.
(The victim's identity has not been revealed to protect her privacy as per Supreme Court directives on cases related to sexual assault)
