Woman jumps off building during police raid, dies

Varanasi: A woman died after jumping from the top floor of a residence in Sanjay Nagar colony of Pahadiya area under the limits of Cantonment police station on Sunday late night when police raided the place to bust a sex racket.
Police have arrested seven persons, including four women, and lodged an FIR. Passports of women of foreign origin and other articles were recovered from the house.
SSP Prabhakar Chawdhary suspended Pahadia police outpost in-charge KN Upadhyaya and a beat constable in this connection. The identity of the deceased woman could not be ascertained.
Locals, who suspected that flesh trade was going on in the house, alerted police after seeing many people there on Sunday late night.
Senior officers, including SSP and SP City Dinesh Kumar Singh, reached there with heavy police force.
On seeing police, one of the women present inside jumped from the top floor and died on the spot, said SP city adding that the body was sent for postmortem.
The police arrested three men and four women, including two from Assam and one from Mumbai, after finding them in objectionable state. SP city said the house was owned by one Sanjay of Dhaurahra area. He had been operating sex racket at his residence since a long time, the SP added.
Many foreigners are also involved in the racket, he said mentioning that many passports of women from foreign countries were also recovered from the house during the raid. Police have lodged an FIR under section 3, 4, 5 of immoral trafficking (prevention) act in this connection.
