AHMEDABAD: Three drug traffickers, Razak Sumra 41, of Mandvi , Karim Siraj, 34, of Gandhidham and Sunil Barmase, 39, also from Gandhidham were arrested from Kutch by
Gujarat ATS on Sunday. The arrests came after Punjab police seized 188kg of a 200kg heroin consignment sent from Gujarat to Punjab on January 31. The truck carrying the consignment for drug lord Simranjit Singh Sandhu’s men was apprehended at Bhatinda, Punjab. On information received from Punjab police, Gujarat ATS acted and arrested the three accused.
ATS officials said they had been receiving information about movements of drug traffickers near Mandvi in Kutch for about two to three months. “During that period Punjab STF caught 188 kg of heroin from Bhatinda. The probe revealed that the stuff had gone through Kutch coast of Gujarat. We learnt through informers that the stuff was taken to Amritsar and Punjab in trucks,” said an ATS official.
DIG, ATS, Himanshu Shukla said the accused confessed that about 500kg of heroin had been offloaded at Chachi Port at different times . Out of thes,e 300kg was taken by cars to Unjha and then transported with cumin to Punjab. “The rest 200 kg was hidden in Mandvi. This was then loaded on trucks and taken to Punjab. However, out of 200kg, 188 kg heroin was caught by Punjab STF on January 31,” Shukla said.
