Black & white era songs brighten up musical evening

Nagpur: Music lovers went down memory lane with their weekend a mellifluous one while enjoying the black & white era songs from 1930s to 1960s ‘Gujra hua kal yaad rahega har pal’, on Sunday. One of the standout features of the show was singers wearing black and white attires matching the theme.
Staged at Scientific Society Hall, Laxmi Nagar, the programme featured evergreen Hindi and Marathi songs presented by artistes of Survandita group. They brought back memories of songs originally sung Ashok Kumar, Devika Rani, KL Saigal, Geeta Dutt, Uma Devi, Talat Mehmood and Shamshad Begum. The show was conceptualized by Uma Raghuraman and Hemant Darvekar.
The programme started on a devotional note with the song ‘Dehachi tijori’ from Marathi movie ‘Amhi Jato Amchya Gava’. It was followed by a duet performance of Raghuraman and Gopal Iyer on the song ‘Mein ban ki chidiya’.
Iyer stayed back to present a beautiful rendition as he adapted to the intricate notes of the song ‘Ek bangla bane’.
‘Jab dil hi tut gaya’ by Darvekar won him accolades. Bhagyashree Kulkarni not only sung but also tapped her feet to the tunes of ‘Latpat latpat’. Nupur Godbole lent her melodious voice to ‘Tera jana dil ke armano’.
The audience responded with a thunderous applause to ‘Akhiya bhool gayi hain sona’, ‘Chhod do anchal’, ‘Dil par hua aisa jaadu’, ‘Dum dum diga diga’, ‘Dil par hua aisa jaadu’ and ‘Mala baiko milali’ among others.
The panel of singers included Ashutosh Chahande, Raju Tandale, Bhagyashree Badwaik, Vilas Dandge and Nandu Andhare. The anchor Vijay Jathe kept the spectators captivated with facts about famous singers.
The singers were accompanied by Pawan Manwatkar (keyboard), Prakash Chauhan (guitar), Prashant Nagmote (tabla), Mahendra Watulkar (octopad), Nitin Janware (congo and dholak) and Manna Dawn (bass guitar).
