Ludhiana: The Crime Investigation Agency-III of Ludhiana commissionrate on Sunday night arrested the snatcher who had escaped from their custody on February 4.
Deepak Kumar, 25, a resident of Mohalla Preet Nagar in Shimlapuri, was nabbed from Gill Canal Bridge on a tip-off.
The police had arrested Deepak on February 3 and recovered 11 snatched cellphones from his possession. A day later, additional deputy commissioner of police (detective) Harish Dayama had held a press conference on his arrest. After the press meet, Deepak was taken to the CIA-III office on Gill Road. There, he told the cops he wanted to go to the washroom. He had escaped from an open window of the washroom.
CIA-III in-charge sub-inspector Yashpal said, “During questioning, Deepak told that after giving police the slip, he went to Dehradun. As he had no money, he returned to the city a day later. Thereafter, he hid in Sahnewal and Samrala. As he was keen to take shelter in Haridwar, he had to arrange money. Therefore, he went to his house on Sunday night and stole his mother’s gold jewellery.”
Police caught him while he was trying to flee to Haridwar.
“Deepak is a drug addict. He is facing trials in five snatching cases,” the sub-inspector added.
