All-weather swimming pool is all set to make a splash after 2 decades

Ludhiana: The almost two decades old project, the all weather swimming pool, is getting a new lease of life under smart city mission — city-level technical committee has given its nod for it.
In 2000, the civic body had floated the idea of an indoor hot water swimming pool near Rakh Bagh, so that people could swim even in winters. The construction work was also started and almost Rs 20 lakh was spent on the project. But the contractor left the work in between and the project came to a standstill due to paucity of funds.
Chief executive officer of Ludhiana Smart City Mission (LSCM), Sanyam Aggarwal, said, “We are going to revive this project under smart city mission and almost Rs 6 to 7 crore will be spent on it. The city-level technical committee has approved the project and very shortly we are going to float tenders after getting sanction from state-level technical committee.”
The decision will be a great boon to people, say residents. “Leaving aside one or two city hotels, there is no such facility for the residents where they could enjoy swimming even in the winter season,” said Sandhya Sharma, a teacher. “Swimming is a fun way to stay healthy but during winters it is not possible for us to go swimming,” said Anish Verma, a student.
Meanwhile, city-based architect and one of the directors of LSCM, Sanjay Goel, said, “For the last past one year, there is improvement in the pace of working of smart city officials and many important projects are coming on ground.”
