Assam govt plans peace discussion with Ulfa (I)

Guwahati: With the central government pursuing a policy of agreement with different militant outfits of the north-east, the focus is now to bring the antitalk faction of Ulfa to negotiation table.

Following the Bodo Accord,the Assam government has appealed to antitalk ULFA, which is also known as Ulfa (Independent), under commanderin-chief Paresh Baruah to emulate the footsteps of Bodo outfits and agree to have peace talks with the state government.

Assam finance minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said, “Chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal and I had a preliminary discussion with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The Prime Minister has asked us to discuss in details the issue of ULFA talks with home minister Amit Shah. The Prime Minister is keen on solving the ULFA issue. Soon we will meet Shah. As soon as possible, the Assam government will officially appeal to anti-talk ULFA to come for peace talks.”
