HYDERABAD:
AIMIM president
Asaduddin Owaisi upped the ante against the Citizenship Act, saying he will choose death but will not display any documents during CAA, NRC and NPR exercise.
“You guys are threatening me. Will you shoot me? Do whatever you can, but I will stay in this country and never ever show my documents,” thundered Owaisi while addressing an anti-CAA rally in Kurnool on Monday.
Going all out against the BJP leadership, the Hyderabad MP said: “If the question arises of showing documents, we will show our chests. This is where our documents are hidden. Shoot me in my heart as my love for the nation resides in my heart, which you (rightwing members) people are yet to understand.”
During the course of his fiery speech amidst loud claps and cheers, Owaisi kept repeating to the crowds that neither he nor any Muslim would show documents to the authorities. “Our name is enough to prove our love and loyalty towards this country.” Kurnool has sizeable Muslim population.
Taking potshots at PM Modi and home minister Amit Shah, he said: “Only those who are raising their voice against Modi-Shah duo are true crusaders.”
Owaisi also said the protests across the country should not stop. “These protests should continue for the next three months. If we fail in this fight, then remember Bharat will become a Hindu rashtra,” said the AIMIM chief, who also raised the quota issue.
“I want to say to my Dalit brothers and sisters, if you love BR Ambedkar, this is the time to prove your love. This is the time to show your love towards Babasaheb. Article 14 of the Constitution says reservation should be given to SCs. But, the BJP government in Uttarakhand says in the SC that quota and promotion are not fundamental rights,” he said.
Exhorting Dalits to oppose this strongly, he said: “ Please wake up my Dalit brothers, please read paragraph 21 of the judgment which says appointments and promotions are not fundamental rights.”
