MSU’s retired professor found dead at home

Vadodara: A retired associate professor of microbiology at MS University (MSU) passed away at his home in Sama on Sunday morning.
Johannes Manjrekar (62) was found dead when his friends went to check on him on Sunday morning. According to police, Manjrekar’s family members, who live in Mumbai, used to call him every morning. But on Sunday when the calls went unanswered, the family members called his friends to go to his home and check. On reaching his home Manjrekar’s friends found that he had passed away in sleep, police said. “We are waiting for the post-mortem report. But prima-facie it very much seems to be a natural death,” said a police officer.
Majrekar had retired in June last year but continued as a visiting researcher. He was currently investigating the role of heat shock proteins which should act as capacitor for evolution. Manjrekar taught at MSU and for two years he worked as research associate at Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
Manjrekar also wrote on political and social issues in social science journals and was also a haiku trainer.
