Kaizer Chief to lodge appeal against FIFA transfer ban

2020-02-10 12:50

Cape Town - Kaizer Chiefs have confirmed they will lodge an appeal before the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) against their FIFA-imposed transfer ban.

Amakhosi were shockingly handed a two-window transfer ban following the illegal signing of Andriamirado 'Dax' Andrianarimanana.

FIFA have punished Chiefs for not paying Dax's former club Fosa Juniors the amount owed due to the breaching of his contract back in December 2018.

"Chiefs shall be banned from registering players, either nationally or internationally, for the next two entire and consecutive registration periods," said FIFA in a statement.

'Dax' was spotted by the Glamour Boys during the 2018 COSAFA Cup hosted in South Africa and quickly snapped up on a free transfer.

But former club Fosa Juniors disputed the transfer at the time, saying that the 28-year-old was still contracted to them.

The Soweto giants appealed this with FIFA, who provisionally allowed them permission to sign the player pending further investigation.

However, a ruling from world football's governing body has come back to bite Absa Premiership league leaders as they have now been banned for two consecutive transfer windows, while 'Dax' has been suspended from the game for four months.

"The Club and the player have received a correspondence from FIFA Disciplinary Committee concerning the Malagasy player Andriamirado Andrianarimanana," read a statement on Chiefs' website.

"Kaizer Chiefs will lodge an appeal before the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) in accordance to article 58 par. 1 of the FIFA Statutes."
