PUNE: The harassment from her medical practitioner husband and her in-laws led a 34-year-old software engineer to jump to her death from the balcony of her fifth floor flat in Manikbaug in Chinchwad on Saturday.
The Chinchwad police on Sunday registered an offence against the husband and the in-laws after her father lodged an FIR against them.
Abhijit Jadhav, assistant inspector of the Chinchwad police, said the woman died around 4.30pm. Her husband, in-laws and her three-year-old son were at home. “The couple quarrelled over some issue, following which the woman went to the balcony and jumped,” Jadhav said.
She was taken to a nearby hospital where the doctors pronounced her dead, he added.
“Her father stated in the complaint that since his daughter’s marriage in 2015, her husband and in-laws were physically and mentally harassing her. They wanted Rs 25 lakh from her parents to buy a new flat. We have registered the offence and our probe is on,” Jadhav said.
