Vadodara: Violence erupted at Eral village in Panchmahal on Sunday evening as a Gujarat State Road Transport Corporation (GSRTC) bus brushed against a tractor carrying DJ and loudspeakers in a wedding procession.
Members of the wedding procession argued with the bus conductor and later resorted to pelting stones on the bus injuring two passengers.
According to the police, the bus brushed against the tractor when the driver was trying to bypass the wedding procession. While the bus was going to Kadwal in Chhota Udepur from Vejalpur in Panchmahal, the wedding procession was entering Eral village. As the revellers were dancing on the DJ’s tunes blocking the road, the bus driver stopped the bus on the side of the road. However, when the procession failed to move forward for a long time, the driver tried to bypass it by taking the bus from the side of the road.
In this attempt, the bus brushed against the tractor and the baraatis got into an argument with the bus conductor and driver. they even pelted stones on the bus, breaking the windshield, rear glass and a window glass. Two passengers also suffered minor injuries in the stone pelting, and had to be taken to a private hospital.
Soon, police including senior officials reached the village and controlled the situation. Later at night, the police initiated registration of offence at Vejalpur police station and also called in the groom’s father to identify all those who had pelted stones at the bus. All members of the procession were from Baska village of Halol taluka.
“We will be registering an offence of rioting, injuring a public servant and causing hurt,” said superintendent of Panchmahal police Dr Leena Patil.
“I have driven the bus on this route several times but never experienced this kind of a situation,” said the bus driver Karamsinh Zala.
