Pune: The Department of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship along with Science and Technology Park is undertaking a project worth Rs 16,000 crore to revamp the Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) in the State, said Minister of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship Nawab Malik on Saturday.

He was present in the city to attend the FICCI Ladies Organisation (FLO) Pune Chapter’s vocational awards ‘Skill and Entrepreneurship’ organised on its fifth anniversary at the Taj Blue Diamond in Koregaon Park on Saturday. The event was held to felicitate women protagonists from various sectors and celebrate unsung women’s talent in the city on Saturday.

Malik was present as chief guest along with Director General of Science and Technology Park Rajendra Jagdale who was the guest of honour and FLO Chapter Pune Chairperson Ritu Chhabria.

Stating that it was his third visit to Pune within a month  since taking charge of the department, Malik said, “We have been working in the traditional way to take forward the developments under his department along with help from Science and Technology Park. We have been mulling revamping courses in Maharashtra’s 419 Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) where the trainees require well-designed courses and equipment as per the industrial needs.”

“Jagdale has formulated a project worth Rs 16,000 crore out of which Rs 2,000 crore will be provided by the State government and rest will be collected through corporate social responsibility (CSR) and change the entire system across the State. We are intending to make these developments in the next two years and if government, NGOs and private sectors work collaboratively, it’ll quicken the work,” said the minister.

Jagdale proposed that the ministry should establish special business incubator for women start-ups. “There are no woman start-up programmes in Maharashtra. Therefore, it is requested to the minister to establish dedicated incubators for them and also another special incubator be set up along with the Army that consists of tools and technology to address the needs of those who are differently abled. The Science and Technology Department will definitely support these initiatives,” he said.

Nawab Malik said the State government will support the proposed initiative and promote women entrepreneurship.

Woman employees from Pune-based government hospital, postal department, Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC), railway, police, animal husbandry were awarded by the minister for their work in their respective fields.
