More police parades in public places soon

Thiruvananthapuram: In a bid to attract more people, especially the youth to police force, the state police authorities have decided to conduct parades, and display performances of police brass band and dog squads in public places regularly. The decision is inspired from the massive public attention the police could garner when they conducted the Republic Day Parade at Beach Road in Kozhikode on January 26.
In a statement issued here on Saturday, state police chief Loknath Behera said that henceforth the weekly parades of police personnel attached to local police stations and battalions must be conducted in public places so that general public can view it. Similarly, the police brass band troupes are also directed to conduct at least one public performance per week. The district police chiefs are also directed to conduct a show of performances of the dog squads for the public at least once in a month.
Behera said that such public parades and display of performances would help reduce the gap between the police and youths. This would also encourage the youth to work hand-in-hand with the police on schemes such as Janamaithri Community Policing in which the participation of the public is very essential.
There are also discussions to conduct Independence Day and Republic Day parades of local police in places that are more accessible to the general public.
