Former railway employee arrested in Chennai for sexual assault of minor girl

CHENNAI: The Tiruvottiyur all-woman police on Sunday arrested a former railway employee for sexually assaulting a minor girl who is suffering from learning difficulties.
The arrested man has been identified as Shankar Rao, a resident of railway colony in Tiruvottiyur here.
Rao used to visit Visakhapatnam. In November last year, Rao saw a 17-year-old girl at Visakhapatnam railway station. Rao brought the girl to his house in Tiruvottiyur, where he started sexually assaulting her, according to police.
A couple of days ago, the girl escape from the house of Rao and reached Chennai Central railway station.
Spotting her alone, railway police inquired with the girl. The police helped the girl call her grandmother in Visakhapatnam.
The grandmother, who came to Chennai, told the police that the girl had been sexually assaulted by Rao.
The Tiruvottiyur all-woman police registered a case against Rao under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and arrested him.
