PATNA: An FIR was lodged against 50 named and 500 unknown persons for the attack on Abadpur police station in Katihar district late on Saturday evening, a day after a man suspected to be involved in a motorbike theft case was brutally assaulted in police custody.
Katihar SP Aditya Kumar said that 14 accused were arrested by the police during raids on Sunday. “Raids have been intensified to arrest the remaining culprits at the earliest,” he said adding that senior police and administrative officials were camping at the site.
The SP said that police fired five rounds in the air to disperse the unruly mob, which had indulged in stone pelting and setting the building of the police station on fire. Documents and furniture were damaged, he said.
Katihar DM Poonam, who visited the spot on Sunday, ordered a detailed investigation into public outrage over rumours spread in the area over the death of a suspect in police custody due to alleged police accesses. The suspect was detained for interrogation in connection with a motorbike theft case.
