Govt assures job for victim’s brother

Nagpur: Leaders cutting across the political spectrum expressed grief over the demise of Ankita Pisudde, who succumbed to burn injuries here on Monday. Right from governor Bhagat Singh Koshiyari to chief minister Uddhav Thackeray and deputy CM Ajit Pawar, many condolences to the family.
While the governor called for introspection by citizens over the “unfortunate incident”, the CM assured that the case against her assailant Vikesh Nagrale would be tried in the fast track court. Thackeray also informed that the government had already appointed noted lawyer Ujjwal Nikam to fight her case.
“The entire society is agitated today. Women are progressing in all walks of life. They are assuming newer responsibilities and tackling challenges efficiently. In order to further hasten their progress, society must bear a positive attitude towards them,” Koshiyari said.
Home minister Anil Deshmukh assured a job to a member from her family, probably her brother. He held discussions with Nikam and the Wardha SP in the morning and asked them to prepare a strong case. He also assured full help to the family after the news of her death emerged in the morning.
While terming the 25-years-old teacher’s death as a blot on the entire state, Pawar called for stringent punishment to the accused, which would act as a deterrent in society.
Demanding stringent punishment for her stalker Nagrale, who threw petrol and set her afire, leader of opposition Devendra Fadnavis said he would pray that the deceased’s family members get strength to come out of the shock. He requested the government to ensure justice for her.
Pressing for capital punishment for Pisudde’s assailant, PWD minister Ashok Chavan said the entire state was in a state of shock and there was resentment against the accused. “In such cases, the trials should be run on fast track basis and accused should be sentenced to gallows as early as possible.”
Revenue minister Balasaheb Thorat assured the government was standing with the victim’s family and would make every effort to ensure justice. “The Hinganghat incident is a shame for the entire state and the government will take responsibility to prevent such incidents. We’re also considering bringing in stringent laws to ensure that such incidents shouldn’t be repeated. Attempts were made to save the young victim by giving her the best medical treatment, but unfortunately we couldn’t save her. The government and the Congress party are with the family in their difficult time,” he said.
Expressing disappointment over the young victim’s death, human rights activist and lawyer Smita Singalkar said the incident displayed an urgent need to change the society’s mindset towards women. “It’s high time to work on men’s mentality, who usually don’t like to hear ‘no’ from women and they construe it as a setback to their superiority. The attitude to seek revenge develops after this. Parents, society and the government machinery should come together to make schoolchildren aware of this aspect right from the beginning. Every woman has a right to accept or reject a proposal,” she said.
