GURUGRAM: A woman BJP leader from Gurugram in Haryana was shot dead by her former Armyman husband who suspected her of being involved with another man. She was the state secretary of BJP Kisan Morcha.
The incident took place at around 9.30pm on Saturday when Munesh was speaking to her sister over phone in the kitchen of their eighth-floor home in Sector 93. Her husband Sunil Godara wanted a word with her. As the argument escalated, Sunil whipped out his service revolver and shot Munesh.
"They would often fight because Sunil suspected she had an affair with another man, Bunty Gujjar," said Dalip Singh, Sunil's father.
Godara had been woking as a private security officer after he was forced to take voluntary retirement from the Army because of his conduct.
Their children were at home at the time of the incident. Sunil left home with the gun in his hand, he threatened the guards. The guards said he was inebriated. They called the police control room and a team of Sector 10 police reached the spot. Sunil had driven off by them and remains traceless.
Dalip filed a complaint, accusing Sunil, Bunty Gujjar and his wife Anu for the murder. Based on his complaint, an FIR was registered for murder, acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention and sections of the Arms Act. "We have formed two teams for the investigation," said Sanjay, station house officer of the Sector 10 police station.
Sunil and family hailed from Charkhi Dadri. The Spaze Privy home they lived in was a rented accommodation. The couple got married in 2001 but those close to the family said their relationship had always been strained. Fights over Bunty Gujjar, especially, had taken a toll.
Munesh’s family, however, dismissed the speculation. "My sister had never been happy in the marriage. Claims about her affairs are just rumours," said Sunil Jhakkar, her brother, adding — as what he thought was the marker of a good wife — that she never stepped out of the house without her brother or husband.
