IMPHAL: A joint team of Assam Rifles and Maphou Police on Saturday busted busted an illegal drug processing and manufacturing plant in
Thoubal district, recovering a huge quantity of drugs, including heroin and brown sugar, worth Rs 120 crore. This comes barely two days after Thoubal police commandos seized 2,30,000 World is Yours tablets from an Assam Rifles rifleman in the district's Wangjing area.
Based on a corroborated specific intel, Assam Rifles troops and Maphou Police personnel launched an operation at the Kamu Saichang area, a statement issued by the paramilitary force read. "The plant was being utilized to extract
morphine from opium which was further processed into brown sugar and heroin. During the detailed search, the team found around 29 kg of solid brown sugar, 20 litres of liquid brown sugar, 8 kg of marijuana and equipment and chemicals used for processing the drugs," the statement added.
The drugs, after processing, were being supplied in loose bags and moulded bricks to the youth of
Manipur and Nagaland. A lady, identified as Elizabeth Khongshai, was arrested by police while the owner of house in which the drug processing plant was functioning is presently absconding, police said.
The assessed value of the recovered contraband items is approximately Rs 120 crore in international black market, the statement read, adding that the apprehended woman and the seized contraband items have been handed over to Maphou police station for further investigation.
