Hyderabad cops crack down on flash protests

HYDERABAD: City police on Sunday slapped a case of rioting against several people for holding flash protests against CAA in Mallepally area during night time.
Police invoked stringent sections under the Prevention of Damage to Public Property (PDPP) Act against the agitators in order to curb the increasing number of flash protests being held at night.
Mild tension prevailed near Riyan Hotel under Habeeb Nagar police station limits on Saturday night after a large group of protesters, including women activists Khaleda parveen and Sheeba Minai, staged a flash protest against the CAA, NRC and NPR.
Sleuths from the police commissioner’s task force, quick reaction team and local police were pressed into service. As many as 34 protesters, including 22 men and 12 women, were arrested from the protest site. Most of them were detained at Goshamahal police stadium while the women were taken to the women’s police station at CCS.
“They pushed us and obstructed us in carrying out our legitimate duties. When we told them to get into the police van, they broke the side mirror of the police vehicle,” said inspector P Shiva Chandra of Habeeb Nagar police
