From indigenous Jharkhand food at Ajam Emba to Chicken Lababdar at Aroma, Vogue maps all the food places you need to visit if you’re in Ranchi
If you're visiting Ranchi, we’d suggest you make enough time in your schedule for each meal here—you definitely don’t want to miss out on everything on offer. To help you navigate the streets better, we got Abdul Quddus who is the chef de cuisine at Saffron, JW Marriott Mumbai Juhu and a Ranchi-native, to reveal his favourite restaurants in town. He says many of his dishes at Saffron actually take inspiration from the local cuisine of his home, and his favourite family recipe, Raan-E-Quddusi, is actually on the menu.
“It’s one of the top places in the city, if you’re looking for kebabs in the city,” reveals chef Quddus. The kebabs are prepared in a total of seven different styles and will not disappoint you. He recommends you don’t leave without trying the Burra (lamb) Kebab—you’ll regret it if you do.

If you’re in Ranchi, make sure you place an order for their moreish Kalmi kebab and Murg Gilafi Kebab. However, it’s the Kadhai Paneer that is an undeniable crowd favourite, says the chef.

Ajam Emba is a Kurukh (a Dravidian language spoken by Oraon and Kisan tribes of Jharkhand) phrase, meaning great tasting and healthy food. Established by Aruna Tirkey, rural development professional and a food specialist, it’s a women-run restaurant that aims at reviving the indigenous cuisine of Jharkhand and promote the organic farmers of the region. The Handi Ghosht, a slow-cooked mutton prepared in earthenware over a wood fire, and combined with Lal Bhat (Brown Rice), comes recommended.

For those who follow a strict vegetarian diet, the chef suggests Kaveri. The restaurant has a varied menu, some of the must-try dishes include, Baked Saag Corn, Soya Methi Malai, Paneer Tikka Butter Masala. However, Quddus is partial to their thalis, and he says they have the best vegetarian ones in the city.
