Chandrapur: “The rising number of farmer suicides is a cause for serious concern. Collective efforts are urgently needed to deal with the agrarian crisis,” said former MP and senior Congress leader Naresh Puglia.
At the Shetkari Mahosav held at Chanda Club ground, Puglia slammed the pathetic attitude of agriculture officers towards issues pertaining to the farm crisis prevailing in the state. “Officials need to visit farms to understand the hardships faced by farmers. Irregular rainfall and poor prices of agricultural produce have intensified the crisis,” he said.
Lauding the Kunbi Samaj Mandal for organizing such an innovative programme, Puglia said farmers definitely stand to gain from it.
A free heath check up camp was also organized with a team of 70 doctors rendering their services. Puglia inaugurated the agriculture expo in the presence of senior leader, Adv Babasheb Wasade, Zilla Parishad CEO Rahul Kardille, additional SP Prashant Khaire and district superintendent of agriculture, Dr Uday Patil.
