Bomb threat emails sent to Noble Hospital in city

Pune: An unidentified person has been booked by Pune city police for sending threatening emails to bomb the Noble Hospital in Hadapsar and demanding Rs 10 lakh extortion money. He had sent three emails.

Based on a complaint by Dr Girish Bhosale, an FIR has been registered with Hadapsar police station.

According to the police, the emails having ‘advocate’ in its sender’s name, were sent to the hospital’s email address on January 29, 31 and February 7. The sender demanded Rs 10 lakh and threatened to bomb the hospital if the demand was not met. The hospital authorities contacted the police around 8.30 pm on Friday following which the bomb detection and disposal squad (BDDS) conducted checks at the hospital.

Senior Police Inspector Ramesh Sathe, in-charge of the police station, told Sakal Times, “We checked the hospital premises as a precaution, but nothing suspicious was found. We have registered a FIR against an unidentified person for offences under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code. Further investigation is going on with the help of cyber cell to trace the culprit.” 

Assistant Police Inspector Ratnadeep Gaikwad, who is investigating the case, said the hospital staff had not read the emails sent earlier on January 29 and 31. 

“After they read the emails on Friday, they contacted us,” he added.
