CHANDIGARH: Two unidentified persons set a vehicle on fire and smashed the windows of another car parked in Sector 52 in the early hours of Saturday, in an act of vandalism caught on CCTVs.
Ram Shankar, a resident of Sector 52, said he works in motor market in Manimajra and parked his Maruti 800 car outside his house around 9 pm on Friday night and went to sleep. Ram Shankar said his neighbours woke him up at 3am and told him that someone has set his car on fire. When he came out, his car was in flames. With the help of his neighbours, he doused the flames. Later, he found the windscreen of another Maruti car smashed. While checking the CCTV footage, the complainant found that two persons with their faces covered had reached the spot around 2.50 am, broken the windows of the two cars with iron rods and sprinkled petrol on one of the cars and set it on fire. However, residents of the area heard the noise and came out of their houses to investigate, preventing the accused from setting the second car on fire.
Ram Shankar said before this incident, one of his neighbors had smashed the glasses of his car, however, later both parties reached a compromise and no FIR was lodged in this regard.
Ram Shankar informed the police control room about the incident and cops from Sector 36 police station reached the spot. Police registered a case against unknown persons under Section 435 (mischief by fire or explosive substance with intent to cause damage to amount of one hundred) of IPC and scrutinizing CCTV footage to get the clue of accused persons.
On December 13, unidentified miscreants had smashed windscreens of five four-wheelers parked outside houses in Sector 44.
