KOLKATA: A 45-year-old man riding pillon on a bike along Canal East Road in
Narkeldanga was killed after he was run over by a bus carrying a group of wedding guests around 4pm on Sunday.
Police said Md Nehal, a resident of MN Chatterjee Road, had worn a helmet but the headgear was crushed at the impact of the accident. Nehal was taken to NRS hospital where he was declared dead on arrival by an attending doctor.
Police said the bus had hit the motorbike from behind as a result of which, Nehal, riding
pillion, fell off the bike as the bus ran over his head. The driver had initially fled with the bus but cops tracked it down. They seized the bus and arrested the driver later in the day.
Earlier on Saturday night, a 38-year-old man riding a cycle was severely injured after he was hit by a bus at Gobinda Khatik Road in
Tangra. Police said, Goutam Rana, a resident of Pulin Khatik Road was hit from behind by the bus as he was flung off the cycle. Locals stopped the bus but the driver managed to flee away. Rana was later admitted at
NRS Medical College and Hospital with injuries on his head and right leg.
