MANGALURU: A Mangaluru youth working on a Chinese ship was forced to postpone his wedding, which was scheduled to be held on February 10, as he was not allowed to go on holiday due to the
coronavirus threat.
Gaurav Bangera, a resident of Kumpala, was supposed to land in Mangaluru on Friday. However, the vessel in which Gourav works has been quarantined in Hong Kong, and he was not allowed to sail due to the
coronavirus scare.
Ganesh Gatty, a relative, said ,"He was planning to arrive in Mangaluru on Friday. We have booked a hall in the city for his wedding, and invited all our relatives too. Similarly, all other arrangements too were made for the marriage ceremony. However, the authorities in Hong Kong have kept the ship under observation since it is Chinese based. We still don't know when they will be allowed to sail. Hence, we have postponed the wedding ceremony. We will be able to fix the next date only after his arrival. All relatives were invited and some of them from distant places, have already arrived to take part in the wedding ceremony," he said.
The ship has nearly 1,600 people in it. The ship had set sail from China on January 26 and it was scheduled to reach Taiwan on Wednesday, he added.
