Cyber sleuths arrest woman lecturer for breaking man’s engagement

Surat: The cybercrime police arrested a woman lecturer of a college in Thara in Banaskantha district on Saturday for allegedly conspiring to break the engagement of a businessman.
The lecturer Dolly Shaha, a resident of Thara, shared fake details about the businessman to his fiancée on Instagram chat. After seeing the details, the girl called off the relationship with the businessman in August last year.
Shah had planned to break the relationship since her talks of engagement with the complainant businessman did not work out in the past. The businessman deals in auto parts.
The businessman, who lives in Adajan, had approached police after getting to know that someone had tarnished his image on the social media, which led to his engagement being called off. Even as the crime was committed last year, the complaint was lodged on Friday.
“The accused lecturer told police that she defamed him to take revenge. In the past, her and the businessman’s family had been discussing their arranged marriage. As first step, their engagement was planned but due to some unknown reason it was cancelled,” said a police officer of cybercrime police station.
Later, Shah started keeping a watch on social media updates of the businessman. When she came to know that he had got engaged to another woman, she decided to break their relationship.
“She created an Instagram account with fake details,” said police.
According to the complaint, Shah sent messages to complainant’s former fiancee on Instagram that the businessman lived with a woman from Maharashtra at his home when his parents had gone to Rajasthan. Following these messages, the businessman’s engagement was cancelled. The businessman was not aware who was behind the messages hence he approached police.
