KANPUR: Panic prevailed after a 12-year-old boy, who was picking garbage at a dumping site, was injured when a 'sutli' bomb went off in
Rajiv Nagar area under
Naubasta police station on Saturday morning. He was rushed to the hospital. His condition is stated to be out of danger.
The boy, identified as
Raunak, son of
Ram Babu, a scrap trader, and a resident of Chaturvedi Building in Rajiv Nagar, was rummaging through the garbage at a dumping site in the area when the blast took place, leaving the residents panic-stricken.
According to inspector, Naubasta police station,
Ashish Shukla, the 'sutli' bomb was abandoned at the dumping site in Rajiv Nagar by some unidentified miscreants. "When the boy was rummaging through garbage, the ' bomb came under one of his feet and exploded causing injuries to him," he said.
The police, on being informed, rushed to the spot along with a bomb disposal squad and forensic experts and disposed of the bomb. "The bomb disposal squad and forensic experts collected the clues which will be sent for forensic analysis," the inspector said.
The boy, admitted to a nearby nursing home, was later referred to LLR hospital. "Doctors said the boy is out of danger. The police are gathering records of criminal elements in the area", the inspector added.
