CHANDIGARH: The UT excise and taxation department on Friday slapped a penalty of Rs 1.5 lakh on three hotels and bars for violating the excise policy.
The department slapped Rs 50,000 fine each on F Bar, Sector 26; Hotel President, Sector 26; and Peg Talks Beer Bar and Restaurant, Sector 47.
Giving details about the violations, an UT official said Rembrandt
Fashion Hospitality Private Limited, running F Bar in Sector 26, had set up and were maintaining extra bar on the premises without taking out a separate additional bar licence. Similarly, the department had found
liquor without hologram in Hotel President. Besides, Peg Talks Beer Bar and Restaurant was found serving Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) on the premises for which it was not authorised.
A senior UT official said that all three were fined Rs 50,000 each.
The department on August 8 last year had slapped a penalty of Rs 5 lakh on Hotel J W
Marriott, Sector 35, for violating the excise policy. The department had recommended lodging of an FIR against Hotel Turquoise, Industrial Area, Phase II, Chandigarh, as per the excise Act. Besides, the department had imposed a penalty of Rs 50,000 on
Punjab Store, Sector 9. The violations included selling liquor stock without hologram, serving liquor without licence and advertisement of liquor.
Similarly, the department on August 2 last year had suspended the liquor licence of Paara Club in
Centra Mall, Industrial Area, Phase I, for keeping the premises and bar open after 1am. The department had also slapped a penalty of Rs 16 lakh (Rs 2 lakh each) on eight hotels, restaurants and liquor vends for violating the excise policy. The common violations include selling liquor without hologram, not maintaining the record of the liquor stock, holding private parties without obtaining licence from the department and allowing private liquor on hotel premises.
