JAIPUR: Even after regularisation, the residents of
Prithvi Raj Nagar (PRN) scheme will have to wait for at least two years to get drinking water supply from
Bisalpur dam.
The public health engineering department (PHED) has prepared a plan and completed paperwork to supply 90 million litre per day (MLD) under the scheme. According to sources, the project will take 30 months for completion. A senior official said, “The work order will be released to firm next month. The department will lay pipelines in 30 km which will cater to the needs of nearly 5 lakh residents,” he said. As per the proposal, Rs 563 crore has been sanctioned for the drinking water project. The department has issued tenders for Rs 378 crore work.
Sources said, “The PHED has already given Rs 60 crore of its share, while it’s waiting for Rs 118 crore from the JDA,” he added. The project might face problem if the JDA takes more time to transfer its share of funds. After series of meetings, there was an agreement that the JDA would pay the amount. But funds have not been released till date. Earlier, the JDA had provided Rs 60 crore to develop the infrastructure. However, the amount is not sufficient. The official said, “During a meeting at finance department, the JDA was directed to pay Rs 118 crore. We have written to the JDA to release the balance amount,” he added. As per the proposal, the PHED will lay 1,150 km distribution line to supply water in 30 square kilometre area. In June, chief minister Ashok Gehlot had approved the proposal of finance department for this scheme, under which an amount of Rs 445.25 crore will be payable by the state government.
According to proposal, the scheme will be completed in two phases up to 2022-23.
“The estimated cost of its first phase is Rs 854.22 crore. According to Part-A of the first phase, infrastructure development in 175 square kilometre of Prithvi Raj Nagar and water distribution network in 30 square km will be done. Its estimated expenditure is Rs 563.93 crore,” said the official.
