Rajkot: Opposition Congress in Rajkot Municipal Corporation (RMC) has alleged that the civic body was acting leniently against owners of mobile towers,
who owe it Rs42 crore in property tax dues.Vashram Sagathiya, leader of opposition in BJP-controlled RMC, alleged that since April 2018 tax dues have been reduced for mobile towers, thus also providing benefit to mobile companies. RMC has launched a special campaign to collect outstanding property tax dues from commercial and industrial property owners, with even sealing many of their premises. He alleged, “RMC was to collect tax dues from 701 mobile tower owners, but over 150 of them have been spared. Interestingly, about 38 towers are not even on the record of the civic body. This has been done with an intention to provide benefit to mobile companies.”
Sagathiya also asked the civic body to aggressively collect tax dues from central government organizations like Indian Railways and India Post.
